DIY Fix For Sega Dreamcast Resetting Issue
Anybody who has ever owned a Sega Dreamcast console and has played it for a countless number of hours (ie hardcore gaming) will have experienced this problem. If not, pay attention since this issue will afflict your console eventually and always tends to rear its ugly head every once in awhile.Yes that is right, there is no permanent fix since it is a result of the original design of the console itself, so in a way this is only a temporary solution which can be done over and over again if the need arose. The problem I am talking about is the issue of the Dreamcast rebooting or resetting itself once it is turned on initially or during extended game play sessions. So has this happened to you? Fret not, your beloved Dreamcast console is no longer a nostalgic paperweight/doorstop. Continue reading to see how you can revive it:Step OneFlip the console upside down and remove the modem unit. On the corners of the console you will see four standard Phillips head screws (one is hidden by the modem, hence the need to remove it).Step TwoAfter removing the screws, carefully lift the console unit up and place it right side up. Then gently lift off the top lid and you will be left with :Step ThreeNow if you take a look at the front left hand side of the console you will see a white plastic rectangle shaped device with 6 pins sticking out of it. This area here:Step FourIf you look carefully at these 6 pins you will see that they make contact with metal contacts located within the white plastic housing. What you need to do is grab a pair of pliers and gently bend the pins forward so that they make better contact with the metal contacts (be careful not to apply too much pressure or you could snap them off completely).Step FiveRe-assemble console and continue to enjoy gaming on one of the most under-rated consoles ever released. It all seems so simple doesn't it? That's because it is and the reason why it occurs in the first place is due to these pins being located too close to the power supply unit.During periods of extended game play, heat build up causes the metal pins to warp, hence the resetting issue.I hope this guide helps at least one person out there since I love my Dreamcast(s) and know that it also shares a soft spot in the hearts of many.If this guide was of help, please take the time to thank me by voting below.
